Thoughts from Mary

Hello Broadway Bounders!
My name is Mary Armintrout, and I am playing Kendra in the cast of 13. Last week we had some really focused and productive rehearsals. On Tuesday, we blocked almost all of act one, which could be a Broadway Bound record! All of the cast members have been working extremely hard both in and outside of rehearsal, which is making this show all the more enjoyable. On Thursday, the boys and girls split up to work on song and dance. All of the cheerleaders worked on “Opportunity,” with Sonia, and so far it’s looking great! The boys went to the North Studio to practice “Hey Kendra,” with Barbara, and I can’t wait to hear them. We are all looking forward to spring break being over, so the whole cast can be at rehearsal!

See you next time.
Mary

Thoughts from Adam

My name is Adam Westerman, and I have the honor of being in the show 13, which will be running from June 17-19 at the ACT Theatre. This show is a blast, and we have such a good crew who keep everything going along like the engine of a machine. We have Sonia Dawkins, our choreographer (this show will have some killer dance moves). We have Jimmy Nixon, Broadway Bound’s founder, who is directing this show. And we have Barbara Lynne Jamison, who makes sure we harmonize correctly and enables us to hit those notes which will leave the audience astounded.

Rehearsals are running smoothly and we are hard at work learning to dance and sing and act simultaneously. We are all having a lot of fun working together, and we are learning the script as well as the songs. Today we worked on our opening number, and I am happy to say that we sounded good.

The script is sharp, witty, and there are many jokes that adults will be able to relate to. I say this because some parents might get tired of taking their kids to see shows in which the type of humor becomes repetitive. I was one of those kids just a couple of years ago. Now, you may think that I am endorsing this show just because I am part of the cast, but let me say this: This show is fun for the whole family. Hope you come see us!

Update from Keara

Hey one and all!
It’s Keara back with another blog!!!
So this week we really worked hard on some good blocking and choreography. “Good Morning Baltimore” is looking and sounding (I’m not even kidding, the harmony ROCKS!) AMAZING!!! And “I can hear the bells” is so hilarious, I’m wondering how I’ll be able to stop myself from laughing on stage.
Danny called the council members from casts 1 and 2 for an extra rehearsal from 6-7 on Thursday. Let me tell you, it helped A LOT.
I really hope I can catch up soon! (I’m still trying to make up for my two weeks!)
Ah, I can’t WAIT until this show is open.

Updates from Loy and Georgi

The show is SOO close to done I can taste it.

It tastes like the 60′s.
We’ll be performing at the University Village Barnes and Noble on December 11th if you want a little preview :)
Also, remember to BUY YOUR TICKETS. The actors feed off the audience, so the bigger the better!!
Hoping to see you all there!!

-Loy Weissman, Cast 2, Principal

So far we are working on some major blocking of the scenes. The Good Morning Baltimore scene is looking awesome! I’m super nervous because we keep getting closer to show time!

Hello from Keara!

Hello all! Have you missed me???

I’ve been gone for the past two weeks doing another play, so it wouldn’t have made much sense for me to blog then :D But I’m back and it feels good to be back with my Hairspray buddies! Wow, it’s amazing how I seemed to have missed the weeks where we rushed ahead, you can’t imagine how out of it I feel right now! But regardless, it’s still fun. So this week I got to watch a very entertaining (and uncomfortable-looking!) beginning blocking of “The Big Dollhouse”. It’s crazy…we’ve blocked most of the show!!! We did a run-through Wednesday to keep us on our toes (I kinda just watched so I didn’t mess anybody up :D ). Although, we NEED to work hard and put in the extra effort outside of rehearsal, we all know that, or else something could go wrong. None of us want Amber cracking her head open, now, do we (Don’t worry, that didn’t actually happen)? It’s our job as actors, and I truly hope that next time we do a pop-run through (haha, see what I did there? Like pop-quiz, but pop-run through? Eh? It’s funny, right? :D ), we will be better prepared, better familiar with our choreography, blocking, and lines, and more impressive. ‘Cuz after all, Hairspray must rock, right? (The answer you’re looking for is yes…)

Ack! This is such a long blog! Signing off!

Post from Georgi

This week was cool! We got to block a new scene! It’s called ‘The Madison!’ The dances have been fun and tiring and the rehersals have been craaaaaazzzzzzzzyyyyyy!!!!!!!!
One thing that was truly amazing to me was getting into a discussion about what the 1960s were like and how race issues made a huge impact on history. It was really cool when we learned about how much it has changed, and, well, racism is still out there, but we’re trying to make it better. And when Nico told us a very personal and powerful story about an experience of his, it was eye-opening and just so thoughtful that it made me think, “Wow, I can’t believe this is still happening.”  I never would’ve thought that someone I know would experience such a rigid event of racism. I only read about it in books, hear about it on tv, and in movies, but to hear about it happening now in real time is a trip back in time. It was one of the best group discussions I think that I’ve had in a long time. Thanks!
